How My Writing & Editing Career Started

I have always written in some form, for as long as I can remember. Now, I am turning writing and editing into a thriving career. This post (my first on this blog) is about the beginning of that new chapter.
It took me a long time to realize this was my calling. For over a decade, I wandered around aimlessly trying to build a stable career. Law school prepared me academically, but not for life outside of it. I eventually found a decent 8-5 job where I was able to use my research and editing skills. Then I was laid off, along with hundreds of others, in early 2026. That moment marked the beginning of a period of uncertainty I wasn’t sure I would recover from.
I learned a lot about myself during that time. It forced me to pause, reflect, and reconsider what I actually wanted. I’m now more grounded, more resilient, and more certain of my direction than I have ever been.
It takes courage to call yourself a writer. Once I began to fully accept that identity, things started to shift. After the layoff, I expected to find another role quickly. Weeks turned into months. I checked my email every morning hoping for updates, but instead of answers, I found more waiting.
I knew I was qualified. I also knew I needed to use the time differently. I returned to my manuscript, which had been sitting untouched for months, and began working on it seriously. In that process, I started to see myself differently as well. No longer as someone in between jobs, but as a writer actively building something. That shift changed everything.
For the first time, I allowed myself to think bigger. Writing had always been part of my life, but I began to see it as something I could build into a real career. With more intention and consistency, I could turn it into both a meaningful and sustainable business.
We all have something we are good at. Writing has always been that for me. Before I ever considered freelancing, I already knew I wanted to put this ability to use in a way that felt meaningful. I want to earn a living doing work I genuinely enjoy, while helping others communicate clearly and effectively.
That is how I arrived here. My writing and editing business is still in its early stages, but it holds real potential.
Writing is a liberating experience. It allows people to communicate, connect, and share their stories. Through my work, I aim to help individuals and organizations express themselves with clarity and confidence. That is why I offer writing, editing, and proofreading services. I take great pride in the quality of what I produce.
This blog is where I’ll share more of my journey as a writer, along with reflections on writing, editing, and building a creative career. It’s also a space for me to document what I’m learning, what I’m creating, and what it feels like to grow this work from the ground up as I go.
